Besides Pony, MT other well known ghost towns in the area are Nevada City about 50 miles from Pony, Virginia City about 45 miles, and Rochester about 67 miles from your Pony Montana cabin.

Yellowstone Park:
America's first park Yellowstone National Park is about 100 miles from Pony.

Lewis and Clark Caverns:
Located 19 miles from Pony, the Lewis and Clark Caverns is Montana’s first and best known state park. The limestone caverns are lined with stalactites, stalagmites, columns and helicitites. It takes a minimum 2 hours for a guided tour thru these spectacular caverns.

The Water of The Gods Norris Hot Springs:
Located about 15 miles from Pony is The Water of The Gods Norris Hot Springs where you can eat, drink, & soak. The updated hot springs offers views of the unspoiled surroundings of wildlife and wetlands.

Upper Potosi Hot Springs:
Located about 8 miles from Pony, two primitive high-country hot springs pools with outstanding views of the surrounding Tobacco Root Mountains. This is one of the few hot springs in Montana on public land. The two primitive soaking pools and the great view of the surrounding mountains make Upper Potosi well worth the easy hike. Surrounding the pools is a lodge pole pine fence built to exclude the cattle that occasionally graze in the creek bed surrounds the pools. You’ll need to climb over or through the fence to reach the hot water. The kidney-shaped upper soaking pool is about 6 feet by 10 feet and comfortably holds three or four bathers. The hot water enters from the uphill side of the pool and from seeps in the pool’s bottom. Two to three gallons per minute of hot water flow through a plastic pipe from the upper to the lower pool. The smaller lower pool can host one or two soakers. Water temperatures in the pools vary from 104 to 110 degrees F. Swimsuits are optional. Primitive.

MADISON RIVER - MONTANA'S MOST OUTSTANDING RIVER
The Madison River is considered to be Montana's most outstanding river. Why? One: it features the best dry fly fishing. Two: it has the highest trout density. Three: it offers the most consistent fishing action. And four: it presents some of the most picturesque scenery imaginable. Located in Southwestern Montana, the Madison is formed by the Firehole and Gibbon Rivers within Yellowstone National Park. It runs north to Three Forks where it joins the Jefferson and Gallatin Rivers to form the headwaters of the Missouri.

The Tobacco Root Mountains:
Tobacco Root Mountains extend from Virginia City northward towards Whitehall.  Pony flanks the east and Silver Star is to the west.  The highest points are Granite Peak (10,590 feet),   Mount Bradley (10,482 feet) and Ward Peak (10,267 feet). This range is part of Deer Lodge National  Forest and part of Beaverhead National Forest.  Historically silver, lead and gold have (and some say still are!) mined here.   The Tobacco Roots are very accessible via mining roads from decades before making for nice alpine climbing.  Historic mining structures are visible in the South Meadow Creek region.
